For those of you who love the idea of sea kayak touring, but perhaps not all the gear and energy associated with camping, this is the week for you to join us at Outer Shores Lodge.
Imagine this. After a very comfortable night and great sleep in your private room, followed by a chef-prepared breakfast, we transport you via a short boat ride to the most beautiful kayaking areas in Barkley Sound’s Deer Group Islands. Here you are greeted by your experienced guides and naturalists for the day, along with your kayak, which has been prepped for you and is ready to go.
Within minutes, you and your small group of fellow kayakers are underway and silently gliding along stunning west coast shorelines and focussed on all the biological and geological features kayakers tend to seek out, including narrow passages, kelp forests, sea caves, intertidal zones, and sea stacks. Harbour seals come by to visit, oystercatchers and turnstones chatter as you pass by, bald eagles pass overhead, and you’re on the lookout for sea otters, sea lions, and whales. Freed from the need to think about overnight camping spots, meal preparation, and the latest weather forecast, you are able to simply soak in all that’s happening around you, combining movement and exercise with the meditative-like quality of paddling.
And at the end of the day, you’re transported the short distance back to Outer Shores Lodge where you’ll enjoy a shower, steam shower, and/or hot tub before sitting down to another luxurious chef-prepared meal and glass of wine.
If this kind of experience may be of interest to you, we hope you’ll get in touch, spaces are limited!
